Donnie and Brenda - Coconut Leaf

     I have been weaving hats, baskets, roses, birds, fish and other items for more than 20 years in Key West and the Florida Keys.  They are made from coconut palm fronds which are woven following a craft tradition originating in the South Pacific.   They are all natural and original made from leaves (fronds) of Coconut trees harvested with great care in Key West and the Lower Keys.  I only harvest the finest fronds from high up in the tree to not damage the tree itself and maintain a healthy tree to provide future fronds in the future.  The baskets are perfect for steaming or storing fruit or bread.  The hats after curing are very light and comfortable and provide excellent protection from the sun.  The baskets and hats can cure naturally in a few weeks or you can freeze them for a couple hours and they will turn brown.  They are extremely durable and last for many years.
